The Rays Tyler Glasnow grinded through five innings on Saturday in New York and left with the lead. Tampa Bay hit three two-out homers and scored all of its runs on extra-base hits. The Rays now are 4–1 against the Yankees this year after a 6–3 victory.

Glasnow had walked just three batters in his first three starts, striking out 29. On this afternoon, he walked four. However, Glasnow gave up just a run on two hits, striking out seven, throwing 105 pitches.

Tampa Bay had just a pair of hits against starter Jordan Montgomery, but made them count. In the fourth with the game tied at one, Austin Meadows walked on four pitches. After Mike Brosseau flew out to the warning track in right, Manuel Margot homered to the bullpen in left center on a first pitch changeup, making it 3–1 Rays.

Glasnow was not helped in the first by a two-out throwing error by Joey Wendle, forcing Glasnow to throw 14 extra pitches. Then in the second, Glasnow walked the first two batters. After Rougned Odor popped out, DJ LeMahieu singled up the middle, scoring Gary Sanchez to tie the score at one.

Glasnow did get in a rhythm after that, retiring the next eight batters and 11 of 12, six by strikeout.

Jeffrey Springs followed Glasnow with a 3–1 lead and had a perfect sixth inning. Tampa Bay then added to its advantage in the seventh. Montgomery walked Mike Brosseau on four pitches to start the frame. With a 1–0 count, Jonathan Loaisiga entered and Manuel Margot grounded into a fielder’s choice that initially was called a double play but was overturned upon review. Margot then stole second and went to third on a Francisco Mejia flyout to right. With two down, Joey Wendle belted his second homer of the season to right-center for a 5–1 lead.

Up 5–1 at the stretch, Springs and allowed a one out Rougned Odor homer to right to cut the lead to 5–2. Collin McHugh entered and DJ LeMahieu singled to center, and scored on an Aaron Judge double to right-center. Aaron Hicks struck out for the second out. Ryan Thompson, the third pitcher of the inning, entered and fanned Giancarlo Stanton to end the inning.

Then in the eighth, Thopmson had a perfect frame. Tampa Bay tacked on an insurance run in the ninth when Yandy Diaz singled to right, moved to second on a passed ball, and scored on a Mejia double down the left field line off Justin Wilson.

Diego Castillo then followed with a perfect ninth, striking out two for his fourth save.

Tampa Bay took a 1–0 lead in the second when Mejia hit an opposite field homer off Jordan Montgomery that just cleared the short wall in right field. It was Mejia’s first homer in a Rays uniform.
